What’s Jesus done in your life?
Ah, hard to sum up in a short amount of time! I was reading a story the other day and it brought back to me how much Jesus has done in my life. Sometimes you forget what you were like and how much He has done.
When I was younger I was a hedonist. You know, just looked for pleasure at any cost and that led into drug taking, partying, bad relationships and all sorts of things. Inside I was hurting and empty. I was a very selfish person really. My friends at the time hadn’t bothered working, I hadn’t applied myself at school and I didn’t have a good job.
Jesus completely changed me as a person. Everything I want out of life has changed.
With your family, you share your time, money and possessions in Christian community. Why?
When I first became a Christian I didn’t have many Christian friends my own age around me and after the initial “honeymoon period” year I started slipping back into materialism. So my first desire to be in community was because I wanted the accountability and discipleship, I wanted people around me.
There are many reasons why I continue to live in community now: I'm able to help people practically in a way I wouldn’t be able to if I didn’t live in community. I can invite people to come and stay with us or come and spend some time here if they need help.
With a few others you’ve recently just started a new church group. What’s your vision, what do you want to see the group doing?
Part of the vision is for us to be a bit of an action team: regular evangelism, trying to meet in public places; just to be out and about among people. We’ve done a few bits of “random acts of kindness” evangelism. Yeah, obviously we want to build close relationships with one another, want to bond as a team with an outward focus and see where that leads us.
What do you want to look back on at the end of your life and see you’ve achieved, you’re remembered for?
I would like to look back and see my life has made a difference to some people that have come from a similar situation to mine. I hope to have influenced them for Jesus. Christianity has a bit of a bad name now really. A lot of people just see religion as a thing that should be got rid of, but I hope to have been a good example of someone who follows Jesus.
